How to prepare beets for salad

For a salad, beets usually need to be cooked.

The best way is to steam, roast in the oven, bake in the microwave, or boil the beets.

Before cooking, wash the beets thoroughly under running water. Cut off the tops and the dry part of the tails.

Do not peel the beets before cooking. Otherwise, they will lose some juice, color, and taste. Do the peeling just before adding the beets to the salad.

Typical dressing for beetroot salads is olive oil and balsamic vinegar. 

To avoid staining your salad, add a couple of teaspoons of vegetable oil to the chopped beets and leave them for a few minutes before adding other ingredients.
