How to boil beets
Put the beets into boiling water and boil them for 30 minutes at high heat.
Then put the beets in cold water for 15-20 minutes.
The temperature difference will finish the cooking process.
Also, it cools down the vegetables and makes them easier to peel.
Boiling is the classical way of cooking the beets and the most time-consuming.
Here are some important remarks.
Don`t peel the beets – just wash them.
Don`t add salt while boiling. It will only slow things down. And anyway, it will not make the beets salty.
Add lemon juice to the water (half of a teaspoon per quarter of a gallon (per liter) to keep the beets bright red.
How do you know when the beets are ready? Check them with a fork – they should be easy to pierce.
